Rock’n Music Idol is a state-wide search for New Jersey’s most impressive up-and coming musicians. The competition was established in 2007 by professional recording artist Howard Lee Edwards Jr. and is administered by Rock’n Music Academy, located in Middletown. Rock’n Music Idol has attracted thousands of contestants to date and has established itself as New Jersey’s premiere music talent search. Rock’n Music Idol has been touted in the press as “New Jersey’s version of American Idol.”

Winners of Rock’n Music Idol have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in New Jersey, including The Stone Pony and The Count Basie Theater, and have been featured on Q104.3, WGHT, and on national television (ABC, FOX 5).

Competition Details

Rock’n Music Idol is open to New Jersey students ages 7-17 in the categories of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard/piano, vocal, and vocal/instrument (contestants that sing & play an instrument). The competition follows an audition process during which contestants are judged by professional musicians based on style, originality, and technique. Contestants compete against other contestants within their age range.

There are three rounds to the competition- the pre-liminary round, semi-final round, and the live finale! Each round contestants are given specific audition requirements to test their musical skills. Rock’n Music Idol culiminates with a live finale during which all of the finalists perform and the winners are selected. Winners are selected in each of the six instrumental categories- guitar, bass, drums, keyboard/piano, vocal, and vocal/instrument. In addition, there is one overall winner selected by the judges!

Grand Prize

The winners of Rock’n Music Idol receive professional recording studio time at Circle K Productions to write and record original songs with professional songwriters. The songs are produced on cd and featured on www.RocknMusicIdol.com! The winners also receive a professional photo shoot with legendary photographer Mark Weiss (Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Christina Aguilera), valuable media exposure (Rock’n Music Idol has been featured in over 100 NJ newspapers to date), and the distinguished title of Rock’n Music Idol.

In addition, select winners of Rock’n Music Idol are often invited to perform at prestigious NJ venues such as The Stone Pony.

The overall winner will receive all of the above plus a $500 cash prize!
